Privacy Policy
THE CRATER ALWAYS WINS.
Last updated: April 2026
Crater Hop is a browser and mobile game. This page explains what data the game collects, why, and who (if anyone) it's shared with. Short version: the minimum needed to run a leaderboard, understand how people play, and keep the game fast. No accounts, no email, no ad-tracking identifiers.
What we collect
-
Your callsign — the name you enter on the home screen.
Stored in your browser's
localStorageand sent with your best score to the leaderboard. Pick anything; we don't verify it. - An anonymous client ID — a random identifier generated on your device the first time you play, so your leaderboard entry updates instead of creating duplicates. It's not tied to your name, email, or any account.
- Game stats — your high score, distance travelled, and the timestamp of your last run, stored in the leaderboard so others can see the top scores.
- Gameplay settings — accessibility toggles, sound preferences, cosmetic unlocks. Stored only in your browser.
- Anonymous analytics — page views and a few in-game events (e.g. which game mode was picked) to understand which features people use. No personal information is attached.
What we don't collect
- No email address, phone number, or real name.
- No precise location.
- No access to your contacts, photos, microphone, or camera.
- No advertising identifier (IDFA/GAID).
Third-party services
- Firebase Realtime Database (Google) — stores the public leaderboard (your callsign, score, client ID, timestamp) and the content of any sponsor banners or pop-ups shown in the game.
- PostHog — anonymous product analytics. Pageviews and a handful of gameplay events. No personal profile is built.
- Vercel — hosts the website and serves the game. Vercel logs standard request metadata (IP, user agent, path) for reliability and abuse prevention.
- Sponsor links — banners and pop-ups in the game may link to third-party sites. Clicking a sponsor opens a new tab on their site, which has its own privacy practices we don't control.
Ads
Banners and between-death pop-ups currently show self-served sponsor content (not personalized ads). If and when Crater Hop adds a mainstream ad network (e.g. Google AdMob on mobile), this page will be updated to describe the additional identifiers involved, and a consent dialog will be shown where required by law (GDPR / CCPA).
Cookies and local storage
The game uses your browser's localStorage to remember your
callsign, best score, accessibility settings, and how many deaths have
happened since the last interstitial (for ad frequency capping). We don't
use third-party advertising cookies.
Your choices
- Clear your callsign, stats, and local settings by clearing site data in your browser.
- Ask for your leaderboard entry to be removed by emailing the address below with your callsign and approximate score. The entry is keyed to your random client ID, so specifying a rough score helps us find it.
- Opt out of anonymous analytics by using a tracker-blocking browser extension.
Children
Crater Hop is suitable for general audiences. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe your child has submitted anything and want it removed, contact us.
Changes
We may update this policy as the game evolves (for example, when enabling a third-party ad network). The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
